"Advanced Anatomy and Physiology"
with Ian Davis
For teachers and teacher trainees. This workshop fulfils CPD requirements for Yoga Alliance. 18 contact hours.
It’s always difficult to define advanced A&P, after all, it’s advanced compared to what? The plan is to give you a little more than you would have got in your initial teacher trainings. We will revise how muscles work, and the way we use them - a little recap on the basics - make sure we’re good with that.
The we will go on to look at what it means to get stronger, it’s not one simple equation and can mean several different things. In a good class - we really want to achieve them all. We will consider energy, the difference between strength and stamina, slow twitch and fast twitch muscles. We’ll also consider fascial chains and what they mean to practice.
Before that though, on Saturday, we will spend a day with myself and breathing specialist Adrian Stokes looking at the mechanics of breathing. I still think breath is the area that needs the most work from students, is the weakest taught subject in most classes and yet probably carries one of the greatest benefits. We will look at what and how the whole process works.
Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June.
